Armed forces jobs are opening up all across the United States like never before in spite of the economy. Although there are more armed forces jobs available, in order to military employment opportunities, there are a few guidelines. For example, tests for military jobs.

ASVAB stands for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It is an aptitude test that is given by the U.S. Department of Defense. The ASVAB is a multiple-choice test that helps determine your aptitude, along with what occupation might be best for you. There are a number of ASVAB study guides to help you prepare for this test.

The Sections of the Test


There are 10 sections of the ASVAB for military employment: general science; arithmetic reasoning; numerical operations; coding speed; word knowledge; paragraph comprehension; mathematics knowledge; auto information; and electronics and mechanical comprehension.

Online Military Study Guides for Military Employment
There are online study guides available for ASVAB. They are available through Military.com and Official-ASVAB. These online study guides offer free practice tests and study ideas. Study materials such as flash cards are also available through Test Prep Review and Study Guide Zone.

Book Study Guides for ASVAB
There are quite a few good study books available out there to help you prepare for the ASVAB. Here are a few examples: Barron’s guide, 'How to Prepare for the ASVAB' has 500 pages of useful information; Kaplan's 'ASVAB' offers guidance and words of wisdom from several different veteran officers; 'ASVAB' is another book, offered by McGraw Hill, which is also a useful tool; There is also 'ASVAB for Dummies,' which is written in a simple, clear, easy-to-understand format; and Arco’s book, 'Master the ASVAB,’ too. It's a matter of finding the study guide that fits your individual needs.

Studying is Important
It's important to study for the ASVAB, because the test plays a big part in your occupational placement. This helps increase your chances of getting armed forces job.

Locations for ASVAB Testing
You can take the ASVAB at MEPS, which stands for 'Military Entrance Processing Stations.' The ASVAB is also given at many different high schools.
