The Army National Guard is one of the seven reserve units of the United States Armed Forces. Members of the National Guard are responsible for upholding the constitution and preserving the freedom of the United States. It has approximately 320,000 members. The latest statistics show that the members of the National Guard have recently been deployed to about 81 different countries all around the world.

The Army National Guard was first established in 1636, in Massachusetts Bay Colony, even before the United States itself was established. The Army National Guard first fought in the Pequot War of 1637, and has been part of every battle in the military since then, including World War I and World War II. It was in the early twentieth century that the National Guard first took part in resolving conflicts outside the US border. To join the US Army National Guard, you must be a US citizen; you must be in good physical health; you must have a high school diploma or GED; and you must be between ages seventeen and forty.
