Do you want to work with a canine in the military Army Reserves? If you are patient and love animals, this may be the job for you. There are various military opportunities and military jobs available.

Step 1
Contact a local recruiter to confirm you meet the requirements for its military police program. Let him know you're interested in working with dogs.

Step 2
You will then take the military ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). This test will evaluate your skills and interests, and will help determine whether or not you would be a good fit for the position.

Step 3
Once you pass the ASVAB, you will report to a processing station for a physical examination and other admission tests.

Step 4
Once you pass the admission tests, you will enter basic training. If you are chosen after boot camp, you will then attend OSUT, which stands for 'One Station Unit Training.' Here you will receive classroom and military job instruction.

Step 5
In OSUT, you will learn about crime and accident investigations; arrest and restraint, crowd control, and security training. If you perform well, you will be invited to take an advanced level of training.

Step 6
Once you complete MP school, you will enter training for dog-handling. You might want to consider converting from the reserves to the regular Army, as members of the regular military opportunity will be considered for this position before reservists.

Step 7
The site for advanced military job training in dog handling is Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. This is where you will be paired with your canine partner. You will be assigned to the 341st Training Squadron. After eleven weeks of intensive training, you and your canine partner will be deployed to a base (either overseas or domestic) to begin your work.
