All of us grow up with the feeling of patriotism well imbibed in our hearts. We all have immense love and respect for the country of our origin. However, there are a very few people who are actually inclined towards taking their love for their country as far as joining the armed forces. To become a part of the military forces of one's country is a lifetime commitment as well as a sacrifice. Being at the beck and call of your country and if need arises, laying down tour life for its honor are the attributes of a true citizen.

Though a lot of young people aspire to join the military forces, most of these individuals tend to take up more lucrative means of employment by the time they grow up. One reason for this is that getting entry into the armed forces is not a cake walk. There are a series of mental and physical tests that have to be cleared before you can be recruited into the forces. The number and nature of these tests differs in the various types of forces.

To be a part of the armed forces, you should be of a very strong mind. It is always advised that you make up your mind firmly and decide if you really think you can take the pressure that comes with the military profession. A military man has no personal life. His life is dedicated to his nation and he has to always be on standby for the safety of his country. The rigorous training and stressful atmosphere can have its adverse effect on even the strongest willed people.

During the initial phases of the military career, the young recruits are subject to difficult and challenging situations on purpose in order to test their will and make them aware of what kind of challenges they will have to face while they are in the profession. Discipline is another trait that has to be instilled in the newly recruited officers of the forces. Being patient and respectful towards others needs and following the seniors' orders to the hilt are other requisites of the profession.

Once you make up your mind to join the military forces, you need to be sure as to which force you intend to apply for. Whether it is the army, navy or the air force, all these forces have their own fixed criteria for the people they recruit. They even have certain age limits which have to be kept in mind while applying for the job. There are military recruitment officers that are of great help to people who intend to join the forces. These officers give the aspiring military men a complete idea of what has to be done in order to ensure that they clear all the required tests and become a part of the forces.

Being a part of the military forces puts a lot of responsibility on an individual. As a military officer, you are responsible for the safety of the assets and the population of your country. You are accountable for any kind of threat that is posed towards your country and it is your responsibility to maintain peace and order.
