About the Position:
Located in central New Jersey, Burlington County, Fort Dix is 72 miles southwest of New York City, 34 miles northeast of Philadelphia. Close to the Jersey shore, Fort Dix is also within short driving distance of a wide variety of leisure activities, cultural centers, museums, historical locations, fishing, hunting, boating, skiing, snowboarding, hiking locations, etc.

Responsibilities
Plan work schedules, establish deadlines and priorities for the assigned workforce.
Create budgets, identify staffing requirements and provide estimates for future workload.
Select workers and assign tasks to be performed on a daily basis.
Provide instructions to employees on new procedures, provide advice to mitigate problems, review work in progress and upon completion.
Determine special tools, equipment, supply requirements, and establish internal shop procedures to support the operation.
Apply process optimization methodologies such as lean principles and other continuous improvement tools to improve productivity and conserve resources.
Develop performance standards, counsel employees on performance, and complete performance appraisals.
Counsel employees on problems and resolve informal complaints; initiate proposals for formal disciplinary action as necessary.
Identify employees' training needs and initiate recommendations to provide required training.
Perform maintenance on tactical vehicles, heavy equipment and utility vehicles to include scheduled service, repair and overhaul of major components.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Position will occasionally require occasional evening, weekend, and/or holiday hours to include mandatory overtime, as mission dictates.
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
Pre-employment and annual physicals are required.
Incumbent will be required to travel up to 20% of time.

Experience in: 1) Planning work schedules to ensure the sequence of operations are accomplished efficiently. 2) Establishing deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and determining methods to support and enforce policies established by higher levels of supervision. 3) Explaining work requirements, methods, and procedures and reviewing work in progress or upon completion. 4) Counseling employees on problems and resolves informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS:
The employee is required to stand, stoop bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Repairs are often completed while the vehicle is overhead. The employee frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 70 pounds. Occasionally incumbent must lift and carry heavier items.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works both inside and outside. Work is usually performed inside where it is drafty and noisy, and fumes from vehicles are usually present.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. This position requires a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL). NOTE: Copy of required license must be submitted with application.

Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
