Bering Straits Information Technology (BSIT) is seeking an Instrumentation Technician II in Washington, DC. To maintain, repair, and test fiber cables for communications systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform work with fiber, Category 5 cables, and breakout kits for multifiber cables.
Performs work with raceways for under the floor, equipment rack, and wall installations.
Dresses up a cable rack to be functional/operational and in good appearance.
Performs work on fiber cable termination and working with fiber test equipment.
Prepares link documentation.
Prepares and documents all installations to include cable properties, cable paths, and after installation testing results.
NON - ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements :
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
Required (Minimum) Qualifications:
At least 2 years of experience, in the cabling field.
Education HS and/or GED.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have experience working with fiber, Category 6 cables and breakout kits for multifiber cables.
Must be able to terminate cable and work with fiber cable test equipment.
Must be able to obtain a security clearance
Preferred:
Associates Degree in IT related discipline
Prior military experience.

Works indoors with high temperature flames and is exposed to dust, dirt and unpleasant odors. Subject to extreme noise.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May provide technical guidance to lower level technicians.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
