THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Sections 1112 & 1113 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 authorize the Secretary of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly into certain scientific and engineering positions within the Department of Defense. Competitive rating and ranking of applicants do not apply to the Direct Hire process.

A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 13.01% will be added to the stated salary. COLA is subject to change at any time.

Responsibilities

You will perform design analyses and calculations for mechanical projects.

You will prepare final detailed working drawings, comparative cost analysis, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and project specifications.

You will develop complex designs and analyses utilizing advanced mechanical engineering software.

You will make site investigation filed trips to project sites, as required, to collect all pertinent data.

You will coordinate activities with other engineers and architects.

You will investigate or evaluate mechanical issues and concern in existing facilities.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as a Career Field Facilities Engineer Level II. Certification is required within 24 months of appointment

You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing design analyses and calculations for mechanical projects.
